The Bardenas Reales Natural Park, near Tudela, is a land of wild beauty declared a Biosphere Reserve. A stunning and surprising semi-desert landscape, it is divided into three zones:
El Plano, a farmland characterized by gentler elevations;
La Bardena Blanca, the most photographed and visited, where the main Castildetierra and Pisquerra formations are located (and a shooting range that explains the flight of military aircraft);
La Bardena Negra, where the terrain darkens, giving way to the only Aleppo pine forests in the area, accompanied by scrubland.
In the Bardenas we have three exceptional viewpoints that show, from a bird's eye view, the differences between different areas:
Virgen del Yugo Viewpoints: About 5 km from the town of Arguedas, these two viewpoints are located next to the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Yugo, a beautiful 17th-century building perched high on a mountain range with excellent panoramic views. They are two wooden buildings accessible to all. The area includes a hostel, a recreation area with barbecue grills and furniture, a play area, and ample parking.
Sendaviva Viewpoint: Located within the Sendaviva leisure park (Ctra. del Yugo s/n. C.P. 31513 Arguedas (Navarra), Tel. 948 088 100), this is a double viewpoint. One section is made of wood and glass with a panoramic table overlooking the Bardenas Reales, followed by another air-conditioned area where you can take six "visual walks" over the Ribera de Navarra. It is suitable for all ages. There are also a number of other small viewpoints around the park that offer excellent views.
Aguilares Viewpoint: Located just a few minutes from the Visitor Information and Reception Center (Finca de Aguilares, Carretera del Parque Natural, Km 6, 31513 Arguedas, Navarra Tel. 948 830 308), in Alto de Aguilares. Completely accessible, it is a fantastic balcony from which to observe the most complete panoramic view of the Bardena Blanca, providing a very informative overview of what you are about to visit.
To finish overlooking Tudela, we can contemplate the majesty of Santa Bárbara Hill: a hillock that offers a beautiful view of the city, the Mejana, the Bardenas, and the Ebro River. It was inhabited since the Second Iron Age and is crowned by a statue in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
