In southern Navarre, numerous aquatic and steppe birds have made the Pulguer reservoir and its surroundings their private refuge, a discreet hiding place among reeds and tamarisks. This saline wetland also harbors highly interesting flora associated with environments rich in salt and gypsum, and over the years has also become an important recreational area for the inhabitants of the Ribera region in the summer. Since 2008, this Nature Reserve has been declared a suitable area for swimming and water sports, earning it the nickname "Ribera beach."
