The former cloister of the Convent of the Society of Jesus.
Descripción larga
It is the cloister of the former Convent of the Society of Jesus built in the 17th century next to its temple, the present church of Saint George formerly belonging to the Jesuits. From the artistic point of view, the courtyard is built in brick and consists of three floors, the lower one open with semicircular arches and the upper ones with blind arches on pillars. It is the headquarters of the School of Music and Conservatory "Fernando Remacha" of Tudela.

It is the former cloister of the Convent and College of the Society of Jesus annexed to the gospel side of the current Church of Saint George, formerly the church of the Jesuits of Tudela.

It was built at the beginning of the 17th century and by 1650 the construction of the building was already completed.

Once the Jesuits were defrocked in 1767, the different rooms of the old convent, articulated around the cloister, were used for different purposes: library, archive, headquarters of an educational institute... In 1797 Manuel Castel-Ruiz, Jesuit, established in this place a school for the children with no resources of the city and it is who gives the current name to the building. In 1839 it was the site of the first secondary school in Navarre.

This building was restored in 1982 to adapt it to different cultural uses and it’s currently home to the Conservatory and School of Music "Fernando Remacha".

From the artistic point of view, the courtyard is built in brick and consists of three floors, the lower one open with semicircular arches and the upper ones closed with blind arches on pillars.

Other noteworthy elements are the staircase that gives access to the current classrooms of the Conservatory, the library of the center covered with a vault decorated with plasterwork and the old cellars that are used as rooms for cultural events.

On the outside we see a carved stone shield with the emblem of the city of Tudela with a cartouche at the bottom. It was installed in 1768 by order of the Count Aranda as representative of the King, after the seizure of the Jesuit convent, who gave it to the city as a grammar school. The coat of arms of King Charles III was placed on the façade of the adjoining church for the same reason, since it was ceded to the parish of Saint George, which is why it bears the name "El Real" (The Royal).
